Karin Kent
b. 1969, Fredrikstad, Norway
I feel a sorrow. A world of sorrow, for a tired planet and a state of fatigue in interpersonal relationships.
This kind of tiredness, and sadness, are clearly expressed in my small sculptures and jewelry.
Loneliness and melancholy, shame and guilt, vulnerability and a sensitivity to life.
We are alternately in, and out, of contact with our surroundings. We are opening and closing our mindsets, we take in and we shut out.
I`m using a simple and clear idiom to identify some of these primary, basic feelings.
Most of my work has sadness, vulnerability and agony in them. Sometimes I do get surprised and this seems to interest me.
A vulnerability among people and a vulnerability found in nature. A closer look at how fragile everything can be.
Through this mourning, I`m trying to look for a true understanding of who I am, and also a more honest look at my relationships with human beings and nature. I ask myself; how much weight can a skeleton carry? The skeleton of a body? And the skeleton of the Earth?
Karin is a trained goldsmith and has worked in metal since 2013. She has participated in several international exhibitions in Russia, China and Germany and had a working stay (AiR) in Berlin. Karin Kent has a studio at Østfold Artsenter, Fredrikstad.Norway

Karin also has a design line of precious jewelery for everyday use. Common to all her jewelry designs is a classic, pure and timeless elegance. They are rough and soft, at the same time, with beautiful stones such as diamonds and sapphires complementing the gold.
Most of the jewelery is cast in sand to achieve the expression Karin wants. All jewelery is handmade in the studio in Fredrikstad, Norway by Karin herself.
